COVID-19 Convalescent
Plasma Program Has Ended

Thank you for participating in the Convalescent COVID Plasma Program. Due to the strong local and national inventory of COVID plasma and the decreased patient need for it, we will no longer be collecting COVID plasma after March 6th, 2021. You can still help local patients by donating platelets, plasma or whole blood.

If you are an existing donor with an appointment scheduled after March 6, a representative will be in contact with you to cancel your appointment and discuss other ways to save lives with Bloodworks.

COVID-19 Convalescent plasma (CCP) was one of few promising treatment options for COVID-19 until a vaccine became available.

Since April, 2020, Bloodworks’ CCP Program helped patients recover from COVID-19 and contributed to science’s understanding of how the human body responds to the novel coronavirus through research, blood collection, and transfusion medicine.

Yet another way we’ve saved lives in local communities.

About the Program

WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. Bloodworks partnered with the Center for Disease Control (CDC), University of Washington, and local public health authorities to further blood research and treatment of COVID-19.

Under the leadership of our transfusion medicine and patient services experts, Bloodworks collected antibody-rich COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) from donors who were fully recovered from COVID-19 for local hospitals to treat patients fighting the disease.

With the continued rise of COVID-19 cases locally and around the world, patients in our community had an ongoing need for CCP transfusion.

Bloodworks also supported national efforts to collect CCP for the production of immunoglobulin concentrates and units for the national stockpile to contribute to national efforts to use plasma for various future COVID-19 treatments.

In addition, our Research Institute has undertaken ground-breaking studies to determine how blood type impacts COVID-19 risk and unravel other mysteries.
