Test Information | The cobas® Babesia test for use on the cobas® 6800 and cobas® 8800 Systems is a qualitative in vitro nucleic acid screening test for the direct detection of Babesia DNA and RNA in human whole blood samples. |
Sample Requirements | Dedicated EDTA tube. When a full 6 mL tube is submitted, may be combined with a request for Zika-NAT and/or WNV-NAT.
For routine blood donor testing, Bloodworks will provide the Roche Whole Blood Collection Tube; preferred as it does not require additional preparation. The Becton-Dickenson PPT is not acceptable for Babesia NAT as the testing is performed on the Red Blood Cells. |
